Who will be behind the refrigerator door when it opens? Find a new fruit, vegetable, or other delicious, healthy treat! Kids will learn the name of the item, watch it say hello, and dance along to the disco party that concludes the game. Your child can choose a child narrator option to help them learn the name of the objects in the fridge, or the adult’s voice for perfect pronunciation. There are 13 fruits, veggies, and other whole foods waiting to surprise your kiddos, in a different order each time. Fun, original music encourages kids to get up and dance with the characters in the fridge! Your child will hear and see the words repeated for each item, helping little ones to learn to say and spell the foods. Lastly, choose looped mode for endless play or storybook mode – which ends with the characters going to sleep— perfect for bedtime!
Prepare to use this app by using any of the following activities:
Scavenger Hunt: Explore the contents of your fridge with your child, making sure to focus mostly on fruits, veggies and other healthy items. Point to certain foods and ask them if they know what they are or have them point to certain foods while you tell them the name of the item. Encourage your child to touch and feel certain foods and go through certain adjectives and texture words with them such as soft, hard, cold, prickly, mushy, etc.
Choose One: Hide three separate pieces of fruit or veggies under three bowls. Have your child choose one. Will that fruit or veggie be featured in the app? Let’s find out! This will help to build suspense and have something to go back to after the app is finished.
Help your child get the most out of an app experience by trying any of the following activities:
Fruits and veggies rock! Have your child tap on the fridge to reveal a fruit or veggie. Have them say the name a few times and if they are old enough, say each letter that makes up the name of the fruit or veggie. Have your child give you a thumbs up or down based on whether or not they like the featured fruit or veggie. After the game, see if you can’t convince them to try that fruit or veggie again that they gave a thumbs down to – perhaps the dancing fruit or veggie will help them acquire a taste for it!
Move your body! The game ends with all of the fruits and veggies dancing. Encourage your child to get up and dance along with them. Take this opportunity to talk about the importance of exercising. Let your child know that not only is eating fruits and veggies great for them, exercising is, too! Talk about some ways that your family currently exercises. How else can you all incorporate more moving and fun into your daily lives?
Extend your child’s learning by using any of the following activities:
- Time for a healthy snack! Was there a fruit or veggie featured in the video that you have in your own fridge, too? Help your child find that fruit or veggie and have them make observations about it again. What is its name? How do you spell it? What does it feel like? What does it taste like? Have a healthy snack!
- These two make a lovey pair - or don’t! Are there any fruits or veggies that go particularly well together? Why or why not? Discuss this with your child. Want to combine two unlikely fruits or veggies and make an original recipe? Go for it! Encourage your child to try something new and awaken those taste buds!
