An impressive brainstorming app that will help your child build vocabulary, share ideas, and/or organize for writing. We love this app for its versatility and ability to support your child as their literacy skills grow.
Prepare to use this app by using the following activities.
Use pencil and paper to draw a diagram as you talk about the items you need for a ski vacation or trip to the beach. Younger children can draw pictures of the items while older children can write the words (with assistance or independently).
Help your child get the most out of an app experience by trying the following activities.
- Create an “All About Me” story. Start by having your child enter his/her name as the Main Idea. Using the images available, create a storyboard that shares describes your child (favorite sport, favorite animal, etc.). You can print or email the final product to share with others.
- Create a new children’s book. Identify a topic, theme, or concept your child is interested in writing about. Enter this information as the Main Idea. Depending on the child’s age, use the pictures or create thought bubbles with text for various elements of this new story. Remember, ideas can be added as subcategories to identify supporting details. Children can print or email the diagram as an image or outline to refer as they write.
- Use the app to guide your student for a school writing assignment. Using the assigned topic create a diagram of ideas. Talk with your child about brainstorming, collecting ideas on a particular topic, theme, or concept.
Take your favorite Zoobean books and create a diagram of ideas based on the information presented. Diagrams such as a character map, story map, or list of facts (i.e. helpful when reading nonfiction) are a great way to build comprehension.
